Pre start checks before leaving Wisbech Yacht Harbour on a Level  2 Course.

High speed exercise off Lowestoft

For many people,  Level 2 provides the basic skills for their boating aspirations.  The Intermediate Course has been carefully developed to meet the needs of those who wish to make daylight Coastal passages, and is an ideal way to extend your Powerboating horizons following a successful Level 2 Course.

It is quite possible to take the Powerboat level 2 and Intermediate together over a 4 day period (or perhaps 2 weekends).

We will do our best to arrange your Powerboat Course to suit you: berthed at Lowestoft Haven Marina we have 24 hr/365 day access to the Harbour and North Sea and operate all year round.

The RYA Powerboat  Scheme provides a series of  practical  structured Courses which can take you from absolute beginner through to planning and making a passage at nigh

The Level 2 Course is also the qualifying level for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) which is now recognised and needed in many European Countries.  The Level 2 Course is a very practical  “hands on” Course, there is some theory but we spend most of our time on the water  working through exercises such as marina berthing, mooring to a buoy, boat handling in confined spaces, man overboard recovery etc.

The Level 2 Course can be taken on a planing boat (one of our RIBS), a displacement boat , or on your own boat.

It is recommended that you have a further 12 months experience before the Advanced Course is taken. The Advanced Course sets more challenging navigation and pilotage, and includes a passage at night. You also need to hold a First Aid Certificate and VHF-SRC Operators Licence.

For the experienced amongst you can take the Level 2 by direct assessment: we take you afloat and cover the elements of boat handling and your knowledge of safety, tides, pilotage and IRPCS.  We can help you to refresh your knowledge on these aspects if needed.
